Static and fatigue behavior of a <scp>carbon‐fiber SMC‐R</scp> composite under combined tensile and shear stresses

Randomly oriented short fiber reinforced sheet molding compound composites (SMC-R) are among the most commonly used for automotive and many non-automotive structural applications. Many studies have reported static fatigue properties of SMC-R under uniaxial stress conditions. However, there applications in which they may be subjected to biaxial conditions their not been literature. The current study considers characteristics a randomly carbon both loading with various combinations tensile shear stresses. A butterfly shaped Arcan specimen was conduct tests. Since strength life data exhibited significant variability, statistical analysis conducted using Weibull distribution analyse variations these material. In is imposed along stress, material decreases increasing stress. failure envelope drawn based on von Mises equation shows reasonable agreement experimental results. As percentage strength, strengths at 1 million cycles tension combined equal significantly higher than pure shear.
